Change in therapy doesn’t happen randomly—it takes therapist responsiveness to create good outcomes

There are three variables most practitioners overlook in art therapy and the other expressive therapies, and these are crucial for individualized, responsive treatment

Learn how Media Dimension Variables bring life to the Expressive Therapies Continuum and the deliberate process of change

What should you do with the next client?

Directives, techniques, strategies—your head swims with these things, yet you can’t manage to get a handle on what to do with which client and when. The use of art materials and methods in therapy is deceptively difficult even though you have a favorite psychological theory to attach them to. You wish there was a way to think about what you do with clients that could give you a glimpse of pattern and logic.

You’re looking to connect with clients and embody responsiveness

You’ve heard about the Expressive Therapies Continuum and know there are resources for learning more about it, but you’d like to have someone explain the basics. How do you make clients move between the levels and components of information processing? And how do you do this in a way that demonstrates empathic attunement?

I help therapists understand the Expressive Therapies Continuum and its relevance to empathically attuned treatment

I’m Megan, and I’m the ETC explainer. Better yet—I studied under the co-creators of the framework and am happy to introduce you to Media Dimension Variables that set everything in motion when engaging with clients in real time. You can learn to see these variables in your work on a client-by-client basis and develop more familiarity with how they contribute to outcomes.

You can ditch imposter syndrome and learn to take better control of variables in art therapy!

Are you ready to meet three variables that are present in each and every one of your sessions, just waiting for you to harness them for an improved client experience? Join me for this one-hour overview of agents of change you may have overlooked and practice unpacking an intervention in terms of Media Dimension Variables; this’ll change the way you think about the Expressive Therapies Continuum and therapy in general!

Investment: FREE

Learning Objectives: Attendees will be able to

  • name two (2) Media Dimension Variables that are applicable to all expressive therapies and understand the function of a third variable that is discipline specific.

  • code one (1) self-selected intervention in terms of its Media Dimension Variables and assess the intervention’s impact in light of these.

  • identify the Expressive Therapies Continuum component implicated in entrainment, resonance, and isomorphism and describe how these processes are important to a nervous system undergoing change.

Megan is licensed by the counseling boards in the U.S. states of Arizona, Indiana, and Texas, and she also holds board-certification status through the Art Therapy Credentials Board.  She has developed an online private practice using the Expressive Therapies Continuum (ETC), a nervous system-informed framework, as a basis for assessment, treatment planning, intervention, progress monitoring, and case conceptualization.  Megan earned her master’s degree in art therapy with a specialization in grief and medical counseling from the University of Louisville, where she studied under ETC co-creators Vija Lusebrink and Sandra (Kagin) Graves-Alcorn.

She has served on professional boards and committees at local, regional, and national levels.  A scholar at heart, Megan enjoys doing research, giving presentations, and writing about the Expressive Therapies Continuum. She is hopeful that a new generation of therapists will have the opportunity to learn the ETC via methods similar to the ones her professors used.  Megan is cultivating a community of ETC enthusiasts and provides ETC supervision and webinars to help others develop appreciation for both the basics and the nuances of this important framework.
